electrical activation of post-intracytoplasmic severly amorphous-sperm injection improve fertilization and embryo development

چکیده

introduction: to evaluate the effect of electroactivation on fertilization and embryo development up to 8-cell stage, after intracytoplasmic injection of severely amorphous sperm. material and methods: oocytes (168) from 13 patients with severe- teratospermia undergoing icsi were divided into control (83) and electro activation (85) groups. in the latter group, oocytes were electrically activated with 1.2 kv/cm for 50 ós using the electrofusion system, model cf-150b (cf-150 biological laboratory service, h-1165 a.u. 31 hungary icf-150) post icsi. results: the results show that there is a significant difference in fertilization rate post icsi between the control (42%) and electroactivation (71%) groups (p=0.04). no significant difference was observed for embryo developmental rates between the two groups during the 66 hr post icsi (p>0.150). however the mean percentage of 8-cells, with respect to total number of injected oocytes, were significantly different between control (15%) and electroactivation group (50%) (p=0.009). conclusion: electroactivation seems to improve fertilization rate and to a certain extent embryo developmental rate 30 minutes post icsi in severe-teratospermic patients.

Preincubation of human oocytes may improve fertilization and embryo quality after intracytoplasmic sperm injection.

The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between different preincubation periods of oocytes and the outcome of intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). We analysed retrospectively 95 ICSI treatment cycles performed to alleviate severe male-factor infertility. Oocyte collection was performed approximately 36 h after human chorionic gonadotrophin administration. The cumulus-corona-oo...

Fertilization and embryo development to blastocysts after intracytoplasmic sperm injection in the rhesus monkey.

Notwithstanding the thousands of seemingly healthy children born after intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), it is not yet possible to conclude absolutely that the ICSI procedure might induce some altered development or that the ICSI protocol might not be improved even further. To address this in a clinically relevant system, the developmental potential of rhesus monkey embryos produced by I...

Effects of Sperm Chromatin Integrity on Fertilization Rate and Embryo Quality Following Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection

Sperm chromatin integrity has been being recognized as an important factor in male fertility. During normal fertilization, high quality sperm with intact chromatin are selected through natural selection in journey from vagina to fallopian tube. However, using Assisted Reproductive Techniques, particularly ICSI, the natural selection is bypassed. Therefore sperm with DNA breakage have the opport...

Failed fertilization after clinical intracytoplasmic sperm injection.

Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) has resulted in pregnancy and birth for many couples, including those with severe male factor infertility. However, even after ICSI, complete failure of fertilization occurs in 1-3% of cycles. Most cases occur due to low number of mature oocytes, failure of oocyte activation or non-availability of appropriate spermatozoa for injection. Given the significa...

In vitro fertilization by intracytoplasmic sperm injection.

Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) is the latest, and by far the most efficient, variant of micromanipulation-assisted fertilization, whereby a single spermatozoon is selected, aspirated into a microinjection needle and injected to the oocyte cytoplasm. The development of this technique is mainly linked to application in human assisted reproduction for which it enables fertilization with d...

Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection – Factors Affecting Fertilization

The ICSI has become method of choice to achieve fertilization. Fertilization is possible in cases in which the sperm motility and ability to penetrate the zona pellucida are impaired. Injection is possible with sperm obtained from ejaculation, microsurgical epididymal sperm aspiration (MESA), percutaneous epididymal sperm aspiration (PESA), or testicular sperm extraction (TESE). In addition, in...
